When it comes time for renovations, it often happens that window dressing gets pushed to the end of the to-do list. When you want to order custom-made curtains, it is better to do it at the beginning. Because the average time for selecting and ordering the fabrics, as well as for making the curtains is 7 to 15 days. Of course, everything will depend on the volume and complexity of the confection.

Yes, custom-made curtains may be more expensive than buying ready-made curtains offered by mass markets.
- First, the choice of fabric; the price varies between $20 and $150 per meter! Then you have to take into account the amount of fabric, determined according to the dimensions of the space where you will install the curtain and the depth of the fold.
- The cost of sewing the curtain is calculated according to the number of meters of fabric required. If it is a sheer, the cost is $25 per meter; for a panel, the cost is $30 per meter. Couture includes edge processing, rigid tape sewing, ribbons, precise cutting to desired height, hooks and threading.
- The last step is to iron the curtains carefully before hanging them and applying a protector.
Thus, the comparison between expensive and cheap is rather arbitrary when it comes to curtains.
If you want beautiful textiles and custom tailoring, you have to be prepared to accept the fact that your curtains will cost more than cheap curtains purchased from mass markets.
First you need to know the percentage of curtain wave.
For the voilage, the percentage is 100%, i.e. the length must be multiplied by 2.5 to obtain the dimension required to make the veil. Thus the fold will be of the ideal depth.
For a piece, the percentage is 80%; i.e. twice the length.
To identify the amount of fabric required, simply measure the length of the rail and multiply it by 2.5 or by 2.0.

For example, if it is a wooden or Placoplâtre wall or ceiling, the cost is $20 per meter; if the wall or ceiling is concrete, the cost is $25 per meter. This amount includes the installation of the rail and the installation of the curtains.

I use different types of rails for curtains, i.e. tracks for ceiling installations, rails for wall installations and even curved rails with variable angles for bay windows.
The maximum length that the rails can reach is 118”. If you need a longer rail, the mooring can be done in the middle, simply using special clips. As the joints are not visible, the whole gives an impeccable aesthetic result.
It is better not to proceed with the sewing of the curtains until you know what type of rails will be used. After selecting the type of rails, you must take the measurement of the window.
You can take the measurements yourself or have a designer do it. The cost of this service depends on where you live:
If you live on the South Shore of Montreal, the cost is $50;
If you live in Montreal, Laval or Mirabel, the cost is $70.
Please note that when taking the measurement yourself, we cannot be held responsible if the length is not suitable once the product is installed. Therefore, you will be charged an extra if we have to make changes as a result of such an error.
